Why the middle of the night? When all is quiet... the phone isn't ringing... the TV is off... darkness surrounds me... the kids are nestled in bed...
Why am I still awake?
Frustrated, exhausted my body doesn't want to "turn off." My mind begins to retrace the events of the day, the things that need to be done tomorrow, the conversations that didn't go as planned, ...
Why am I still awake?
God, I need my sleep! My days are so filled with things that must be accomplished. I need my beauty rest to survive. Anger begins to raise its ugly head. I can't go through the day on only a few hours of sleep...
Why am I still awake?
Is this a "Wake-Up Call" from the Holy Spirit to pray? All of the sudden, someone comes to my mind and their situation penetrates the crevices of my heart. A scripture pops into my head from 1 Samuel 12:23, "As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you!"
Challenge for the Week... The next time you awake in the middle of the night, ask the Lord to place on your mind and heart someone or a situation to pray for at that very moment! You could be the only one God is calling to stand in the gap and pray!
It might be the very "sleep aide" you need to fall back to sleep again!

Carla,
I loved the post. In fact last night, I was having such a problem. I blamed it on my extended Sunday nap I had yesterday afternoon, but amazingly enough, I did pray out loud in fact. My husband was fast asleep but I poured out my heart to God with my prayer requests.
I felt much better after I had done so. Just to know that I got everything off my chest before I went to sleep was good.
Now on a funnier note, after I prayed I still had to lay there for awhile before I fell asleep, but the laying there was at least at peace.
Have a good week! Danielle

This is one of my regular battles. God wakes me up to pray and I want to go back to sleep quickly and don't want to pray but He isn't planning on letting me go back to sleep until I pray; I usually lose this and once I am done praying can go back to sleep.
